Fractional Co2 Laser Resurfacing
The Fractional Co2 Resurfacing Laser system is safe and effective and preferred by patients and professionals as the laser of choice. This laser provides outstanding treatment results for wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, enlarged pores, brown/splotchy skin tone, aging hands, smoker’s lines around the mouth, sun damage and skin texture irregularities and skin tightening. It can be applied to most areas of the body.
The Fractional Co2 Resurfacing Laser is a combination of two different types of lasers, CO2 and Erbium YAG, which allows for greater versatility, as well as the ability to have different treatments within the same session. The CO2 laser is able to penetrate deep within the skin to treat scars, sun damage, wrinkles, and reverse many topological blemishes. The Erbium YAG laser, in contrast, resurfaces the top layers of the skin, treating mild wrinkles and surface scars, as well as improving skin vibrancy and texture. Dr. Ahdoot also uses this Laser to treat most discoloration issues, restoring a more even skin tone and improving elasticity.
How the Cortext Laser Works
The Fractional Co2 Resurfacing Laser will direct a grid pattern of tiny pulses of light at the skin. Each pulse delivers a column of energy that can reach the skin’s dermal layer. This stimulates a natural renewal process of the body’s own collagen. Also, because the laser beam has been fractionized, small areas of untreated skin will be left between the treated spots. By strategically performing the procedure in this manner, the healing process is accelerated.
What to Expect During Treatment
Treatments generally take less than an hour and patients may report only mild discomfort during the procedure. A topical anesthesia is generally required, but if you have sensitive skin or are on any medications, there are additional methods to reduce the feeling of intense heat.
What to Expect After Treatment
Swelling and redness with some crusting is expected and total recovery time is under 1 week. It is common to experience some minor inflammation after treatment and slight tenderness to the touch. Some downtime is associated with this procedure so you should plan to avoid sports, sunlight or other physical activities for several days post-treatment. The use of a strong sun block is necessary when going outside to prevent any additional damage while the skin is healing.
How Many Treatments Will It Take To See Optimal Results?
You can opt for a single treatment or a series of treatments, depending on your skin condition. Results are immediate with improvement of fine lines, elimination of pigmentation, pore size reduction and skin tightening. New collagen formation, however, will continue for the next 6 months, so expect additional improvement over the next season or two!
